James A. Owens

James “Jim” A. Owens of Toledo, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Otterbein Ashanti Hospice at the age of 76. He was born on September 17, 1948, in Amherstdale, West Virginia, to Marion Jr. and Mary Ruth (Hatmaker) Owens.


Jim married Barbara Jean Okoroski, and together they raised two sons, Christopher Raymond and Jeffrey Michael.


Jim worked as a production operator at the former New Mather Metals Inc. in Toledo where he made lifelong friends. After many years of employment, he retired on October 1, 2010.


Jim was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. His love for the team was constant throughout his life and he passed this love down to both his sons.


Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara (Okoroski); son, Jeffrey; parents; sister, Kathy Moore; niece, Megan Fritch; parents-in-law, Raymond and Jean Okoroski; brothers-in-law, Gary Fritch and Bob Okoroski.


He is survived by his son, Christopher (Amy) Owens; daughter-in-law, Amanda Owens; brother, Bob (Cindy) Owens; grandchildren, Cassidy, Kyle, Kendall, Katelyn, and Ashlyn; great-granddaughter, Kailani; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.


At his request, no memorial service will be held by the family. To honor his memory, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) to honor his late wife, Barb or a charity of your choice.
