James McDowell Sr., age 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on August 15, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born March 28, 1943, in Toledo to Harry K. and Bertie McDowell, he lived a life defined by quiet strength and devotion to his family.

He served four years in the United States Air Force and later worked at Libbey Glass. In his free time, he enjoyed working on cars in his garage.

On December 27, 1974, he married Karen, his lifelong partner.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Tamara, Regina, John, Gloria, and Kenneth; grandchildren; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his son, James W. McDowell II.

He will be remembered for his love of family and kind heart, and will be deeply missed.
