James A. H. Magoun III, age 85, passed away on March 8, 2017 at Otterbein Perrysburg where he spent the last 13 months of his life in a caring small house community. Born in Toledo on April 7, 1931, he was the son of Lois Cole Magoun and Dr. James A. H. Magoun, Jr., a founder of The Toledo Clinic. Jim attended Phillips Exeter Academy and Princeton University where he majored in Art History.”He joined ROTC and was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army in Germany in 1955 and 1956.” It was in”Baden that he met his wife, Page Hobson Magoun. Upon”his return”from service in Europe, Jim and Page married”in a civil ceremony in Princeton, NJ”on 02-11-1957 and celebrated”their 60th Anniversary in 2017.”They said their vows again on 08-17-1957 at St. Stevens”Episcopal Church”in Port”Washington, New York September, 1957 they went”to Phoenix to”study Spanish,”Latin American”Area Studies and Foreign Trade. “Then, while working as controller”for an import”company in”Toledo, Jim took”accounting”courses at”U.T. and passed the five rigorous tests to”became a Certified Public Accountant. Jim”is survived by his wife, Page, daughter Patricia Taliaferro Magoun (Tali), her husband, Andrew Buhse and children Graham Buhse of Boulder and Caroline Buhse of Washington, D.C., also his daughter Edyth Page Magoun (Edie) of West Hollywood and his son James A. Magoun, and his children Henry, Jake and Kate of Perrysburg.”He is also survived by his nephew, John Cattier, his wife Christine, of Indianapolis their”four children and two grandchildren and by his niece, Elizabeth Cattier, her husband Etienne Lamine and their three children of Belgium. Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Magoun Cattier, her husband, Edmond Cattier and their son and Jims nephew, James Cattier. Jim was a”supportive and loving “husband,” father, grandfather and uncle.” We are grateful to have had him in our lives.” He was a kind man who appreciated the small things, a man whose love for those around him was simple and pure, a man who found humor everywhere.” He lived his life laughing and taught us that a happy life in only a laugh away.” He was also an avid reader and scholar of history and enjoyed long conversations about our countrys Founding Fathers. Memorial services will be held at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Maumee at a later date when our widely scattered family can attend. Please check with the church or a family member.
