James L.B. LaVigne, age 75, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Jim was born August 15, 1946, to James and Mary LaVigne. He graduated from Bedford High School. Following graduation Jim entered the US Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War. He was a very proud veteran and in his younger days he always traveled to Washington D.C. on Memorial Day to honor his fellow veterans. After the service, Jim worked for Conrail and then Norfolk Southern railroads. Jim enjoyed fine dining, his garden and collecting antiques. He always had a good story to share but never tell him a secret! Jim is survived by his friend and caregiver, Bart Banks; nephews, Michael (Janet) Grimes, Lary LaVigne, and Thomas LaVigne; nieces, Mary Beth (Chris) Kurtz, and Jennifer (Dean) Zocchi; many great-great nieces and nephews; and his beloved feline companions. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Lary LaVigne and sister, Judith Nofziger. Also, by his faithful dogs Casey and Buster. A service with military honors will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Bedford Township Veterans Center, 8020 Lewis Ave Temperance, MI 48182 or the Toledo Humane Society, 827 Illinois Avenue Maumee, OH 43537, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
