James Dennis Jim Godbey

James “Jim” Dennis Godbey, 65, of Toledo passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018, early in the morning due to multiple health complications. He was born on July 10, 1953 to James and Shirley (Weaver) Godbey. Jim had a decorated academic career, winning Ohio State High School debate championships in both 1970 and 1971, and also carrying a national championship win in 1971. He then moved forward towards obtaining his undergraduate degree in political science, carrying a minor in communications and English. After which he scored in the top 5% of his class in law school admissions and attended the Ohio State University where he obtained his Juris Doctor in law in the late 70s. Illness rendered him incapable of practicing post the early 2000s. Jim is survived by his wife Jenny; his two children, Merit Taft and Mackenzie Ross; brothers Tim Godbey of FL and Neil Godbey of Tx; step-children, Matthew (Jennifer), Patrick (Tawana) and Christopher Molnar. Jim was known for his quick whit, bigger than life personality and loving spirit. Jim enjoyed the theater, getting annoyed by the news media, Ohio State football, cooking, gardening, his weekly euchre games with his wife and friends, and retelling stories from past experiences. The world is lesser without his mind and spirit in it and he will be missed by all who knew him. His final preparations were done by the Cremation Society of Toledo. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church of Sylvania, 5271 Alexis Road, Sylvania, Ohio 43560. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
