James David Gilmore

December 28, 1942 — February 17, 2022

James David Gilmore, 79, passed away February 17th, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. A longtime resident of Waterville and Maumee, he was surrounded in death by the family he cherished. Survivors include Lowrie Sprague, his wife of 44 years; son Jason (Rebekah) Gilmore of Las Vegas, NV, Brent (Kristen) Rutgers of Denver, CO; daughter Beth (Andrew) Connelly of Rocky River, OH; Grandchildren Christopher Gilmore, James Devon Gilmore, Ryan Connelly, Sara Connelly, Sean Connelly; Great Grandson Bowen Benjamin Gilmore. His son James Liam Gilmore preceded him in death in 2015 and Grandson Brennan Connelly in 2004. Mr. Gilmore is also survived by his sisters, Beverly Gilmore (Roger) Fox of Tampa, FL and Barbara Gilmore (Dr. William J.) Weber of Northport, MI, daughter-in-law Dr. Dorothee Gilmore of Lisbon, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was born December 28th, 1942 in Monroe, MI, son of the late James B. Gilmore and Verna L. Dahlke. He graduated from Monroe High School and continued his education at both the University of Michigan and University of Wyoming. Upon completion of college, Mr. Gilmore was responsible for municipal engineering projects with the city of Monroe, MI engineering department. He then worked as a state and local government account representative for Motorola Communications. In 1971, he joined Kuhlman Corporation as an operations manager and through the years worked his way up to Vice President of Operations and became a valuable board member until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Gilmore also served 15 years as officer on the boards of directors of Westfield Milling and Electric Light Co. and Pioneer Power and Light Co., electric energy utilities in central Wisconsin, founded in the early 20th century by his maternal grandfather Gustav E. Dahlke. A devout member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mr. Gilmore always enjoyed sailing, fishing, researching and preserving family ancestry, computer programming, and University of Michigan football – “Go Blue!” A celebration of Jim’s life will be held later this spring. Donations can be made to the Hospice of NW Ohio or First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg.
