James R. Dixon of Toledo, Ohio formerly of Bradenton, Florida passed away at Holiday Alexis Gardens in Toledo on April 14, 2023. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 23, 1942, the son of the late Charles and Mary Alice Dixon.
Jim graduated from Dearborn High School and he proudly served his country as a National Guard Army Reserve for 6 years. He attended Ferris State University and upon graduation was hired at Ford Motor Company as a Engineer Technician and was with Ford until his retirement. Jim had a love for cooking and was a master in the kitchen. He was also known for his huge garden and apple orchard. His many hobbies included hunting and some of his favorite spots included Oscoda and Saginaw Bay. He loved camping with his family in Lake Leelanau, Michigan every summer. He had a love of bicycling and kayaking with family and friends. He was a member of the Ford cycling club as well as the Sarasota Manatee bicycling club. He enjoyed listening to all types of music, played the guitar and banjo and sang in the church choir for many years. He had a love for animals and also Boy Scouts and 4-H and was very involved with his children and grandchildren. He spent many years in the Chelsea, Michigan area and later settled in Bradenton, Florida. He always made many friends along the way .
Jim is survived by his former wife, Karen Dixon and their children, Monica Andrews (Matt Barbour), Michael Dixon, and Katherine Dixon (Kyle Fritts) all of Tecumseh, Michigan; grandchildren, Joshua Carlson of Jackson, Michigan, Veronica Weston (Scott Collins) of Tecumseh, Michigan; former step grandson, Jason Andrews of Milan, Michigan, and his special friend, Marsha Wikle of Lady Lake, Florida .
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Diane Dixon, his son Jeffrey Dixon, his former son in law David Andrews, and his brother David Dixon.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, your local Humane Society, or the Charity of Choice.
