Jack F. Jones

August 30, 1948 — July 16, 2017

Jack F. Jones, 68, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend; passed away peacefully on July 16, 2017 at Hospice of NWO after” battling a rare form of Lymphoma the past 9 months.” He fought valiantly, displaying a steadfast strength to the very end. Jack was born August 30, 1948 in Milwaukee, WI to Jack H. and (Elizabeth) Elaine Jones.” He grew up in the Trilby area, later graduating from Ottawa Hills High School in 1966 and The University of Toledo in 1970 majoring in history. While at UT, he attended graduate school, with concentrations in history, philosophy and library science as well as their law school briefly, before realizing he wanted to make his living helping others.” Starting in social work, he would spend 30 years as a probation counselor with the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, retiring in 2002. He would marry Christine Schultz in 1970 and although their marriage would end after nearly 3 decades and two children together, they remained amicable, with her being an integral source of support throughout his illness. As a father, grandfather and uncle, Jack was very involved. He attended activities, even traveling out of state on a consistent basis, the distance and time involved never a factor. Over the years he coached numerous teams, not only for his girls, but also his grandson.” He was a constant presence and reliable source of support that will be sorely missed. To say Jack loved music would be an understatement. His eclectic tastes helped pass along that appreciation to his daughters. He played music as well, drumming in rock bands in his younger days. Other passions included baseball and books.” A self-proclaimed voracious reader since boyhood, his hunger for knowledge and love of the written word would continue as an adult, again, exposing his girls to literature and instilling the importance of lifelong learning. His children were also fortunate to be included in his goal of visiting all MLB parks, combining his love of baseball and a good road trip. A favorite memory of his was experiencing a no hitter on one of these said trips. He recently had enlisted his grandson as his traveling companion.” A loyal UT alum and season ticket holder, he could be seen at nearly every basketball and football game, cheering on his Rockets. Jack is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Jones, of Toledo, and Elizabeth (James) Hoehner of Sylvania; grandson and namesake, Jack Hoehner; brother, Charles Jones, of IN; sister, Barbara (Victor) Aleman, of IN; nephew, Phillip Aleman, of CA; and niece, Laura (Nathan) Hunt, of IN. Former wife Christine Claypool also survives. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Larry Jones. The family wishes to thank Dr. Timothy Kasunic for his compassionate care and Dr. Deepa Jagadeesh for her interest in researching and hopefully, someday eradicating this rare cancer. The family is also thankful to the Chicago Cubs for FINALLY winning the World Series for him! In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Lymphoma Research Foundation or Natures Nursery. At this time no service is planned per his request.
