Helen L. (Neff) Spieker was blessed with 91 years of life. She departed on October 9th, 2025, due to declining health. A beloved mother, Nana, great and great-great grandmother, also aunt; She was the matriarch of 5 generations. Her journey on this earth was marked by her love for her family and her faith in God. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and her caregivers who took care of her in her final years.
Helen loved to paint scenery and flowers. She had a passion for coin collecting, hoping to find that 1 valuable coin. Also, she loved going to the casino for an afternoon of fun! She was a native-born Toledoan. She attended Mary Brook Academy for Girls and received the Bishop’s Cross for academic excellence. She worked at Libbey Glass for 15 years, then moved on to sell real estate for Danberry Realty. She shortly realized she had a calling to help those in need and went on to nursing. She worked at Flower Hospital for a short time and moved on to home health care, as an agency nurse, working well into her 60s, before retiring. But she never stepped away from helping others. With her faith and love, she continued to care for the elderly until her illness.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Spieker; brother, William Neff; son, Joseph Wetzel, and granddaughter, Samantha Bails. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ruffing and Evelyn Shible; grandchildren, Kimmie Ruffing, Joseph Wetzel II (Abigail), Penelope McGown, and Nichole Miller (Steve); 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Heartfelt thanks to all her caregivers at Genacross Wolf Creek Campus Nursing Home and Care 360 Hospice aides and nurses.
A graveside interment will be held privately, and a memorial service is to be decided at a later time.
