Harvey H. Hanna

February 18, 1942 — January 19, 2021

Harvey H. Hanna, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, returned to his heavenly home on January 19, 2021. Harvey was born on February 18, 1942 to G. Vernon and Ruth (Grimmel) Hanna in Baltimore, Maryland. In his youth, his family moved to Orlando, Florida where he graduated from Edgewater High School. Following high school, Harvey graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He was ordained in 1968 as a minister in the Lutheran Church ELCA and served as a pastor in Eden, Ohio, and then Toledo, Ohio. In 1980, Harvey followed a new calling to be a school teacher with Toledo Public Schools and taught German at Woodward High School for 30 years. In 1977, Harvey met the love of his life, his wife Jean Holden-Hanna. They were inseparable for the next 43 years, and their marriage blended their families with children Jason, Kristen, Lisa, and Jerry. Harvey and Jean's loving devotion was very apparent throughout their many years together and that love spilled over onto everyone around them. Together, they were affiliated with the Crusade of Love for All of Mankind. In addition to the great love and pride Harvey had for his family, he had a great passion for teaching and touched the lives of hundreds of students. Harvey was an avid sports fan and loved to watch The Ohio State Buckeye football and basketball teams, indeed March Madness was one of his favorite times of the year. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ruth Hanna; his brother, Stanley Hanna; and his beloved mother-in-law, Margaret White. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Holden-Hanna; his four children, Jason (Amy) Hanna, Kristen (Alberto) Vargas, Lisa Holden (LaVonda Johnson), and Jerry Holden (Shea Chambers); his eight grandchildren, Corey, Bailey, Connor, Miranda, Adam, Tyler, Andre, and Darrell; and five great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Verna (Steve) Jackson; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Harvey to the American Heart Association. Due to the pandemic, the family will have a private interment, a celebration of Harvey's life will be held at a later date.
