Handley H. Keener, Jr.

Handley Holt Keener, Jr., age 69, passed away peacefully at his home on May 10, 2025. Born on November 10, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio, Handley spent his life rooted in hard work, deep connections, and quiet passions that spoke volumes.

Handley dedicated the majority of his career to his craft as a drywaller and finisher with Tom’s Drywall. He was known for his steady work ethic and his ability to leave every space better than he found it.

A man of simple joys and enduring interests, Handley loved the open road on his motorcycle, the shine of a good silver piece, the sizzle of something on the grill, and the quiet reward of a well-tended garden. His hobbies were reflections of who he was: adventurous, meticulous, generous, and grounded.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Keener; and his brother-in-law and dear friend, James Whetsel.

Handley is survived by his devoted life partner, Abby Wing; and his beloved children, Jeanie Parks Johnson, Tommy (Katie) Wing, and Kasey (Caitlin) Keener. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Jayden Wing, Jackson Keener, and Ella Keener. He is also survived by his sisters, Cathy (Allen) Painter, Diane Whetsel, and Jennifer Williams, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whose lives he touched with quiet kindness and steady presence.

Handley will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his loyalty, his laugh, and the way he showed love in every ride, every meal, every shared moment. A celebration of Handley’s life will be held on Friday, June 6, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sycamore Shelter in Wildwood Metropark, 4830 W. Central Ave., Toledo, OH 43615. All who knew and loved him are welcome to join us as we share memories, laughter, and stories in honor of a life well lived.
