Geraldine (Gerry) Steinhelfer-Kosakowski aka Allie Matthews, 68, of Toledo, Ohio died Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after a brief stay there. She was born of Richard and Norma Steinhelfer in Bellefontaine, Ohio on February 2, 1953. Gerry graduated from Bellefontaine High School where she was active in drum and bugle corps and then attended Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, graduating with an Associates degree in Mental Health Technology. After receiving her degree, Gerry relocated to Toledo where she was employed by the Elizabeth Zepf Community Mental Health Center as a Mental Health Technician and then later as an Intake Probation Officer to the Lucas County Adult Probation Department. During this time, she attended additional classes in Sociology at the University of Toledo. Gerry was an avid reader and writer with a wonderful smile and very personable disposition. Sensitivity, empathy, and supportive understanding were key character attributes that enabled her to be a wonderful listener and confidant. Gerry is survived by her mother, Norma Steinhelfer; daughters, Gretchen Herbst and Tanya Kosakowski; five grandchildren, Penelope, Vivienne, Guinevere, Ingrid, and Conrad; nephews, Adam and Zayne Suever; and her former spouse and longtime companion, Dan Kosakowski. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Steinhelfer and siblings, Donald Steinhelfer, Christine Suever, and Thomas Steinhelfer.
