George M. Bender, 93, transitioned from his body on earth to his spiritual eternity on November 29, 2016. A 1951 graduate of Purdue University, member Phi Kappa Tau, he was a professional mechanical engineer having worked for Eli Lilly, Surface Combustion, “Johns Manville, Globe Industries, Ford Motor Company and the AVCA Corporation. He was a World War II Veteran having served in both the Air Force as 2nd Lieutenant and Army Technician Fourth Grade and was part of the 352nd Army Service Forces Band, Ft Logan, Colorado. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and diligently and enthusiastically working on his antique boat, a 1935 wooden Richardson, the Lady Jo. He was a lifetime member of the 32nd Degree Mason, member of Beech Grove Lodge #694, Shriner and member of Monroe Boat Club. In his life he found good in all he encountered and emulated a warmth and friendship that will remain with those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Joneal, daughter Joneal Jody (Dave Johnson), son Todd (Bev (Snyder) Bender), grandson Kenneth DeLine (Stepheny Webb) and two great granddaughters.” Also surviving are his two sisters Mary Frances Leggins and Jean Elaine Farthing of Indiana.” He was preceded in death by his parents, George F. Bender and Ruth Mildred (Fogarty) Wood. The family would like to thank the neighbors, friends, and nursing staff of Otterbein of Perrysburg, and Northwest Ohio Hospice of Perrysburg for their care and kindness. There will be no visitation and burial will be private.
