Gary Bennett

Gary Foy Bennett, age 88, died on May 12, 2024, at his home at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. He was born July 22, 1935 to the late George (Rex) and Dora Bennett in Windsor, Ontario. Canada. Gary graduated from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1957. He went on to earn his Master’s and PhD degrees at the University of Michigan in 1963. While there he met Judy. They married in 1963.

He went on to have a very successful career as a professor of Biochemical Engineering at the University of Toledo, retiring in 1992. He also consulted in the fields of wastewater pretreatment and hazardous materials, and edited two technical journals - Environmental Progress for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Journal of Hazardous Materials for Elsevier.

Gary enjoyed family time by camping, hiking, playing games, and spending time up north at his cottage in Canada.

His faith in God was very important to him and he served as a deacon and as an elder at Hampton Park Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sandra (Bennett) Huggard. He is survived by his wife, Judith (Connable) Bennett; his brother-in-law, Gary Huggard; sister-in-law, Margery (Vic) Zeller; children, Ritchie (Wendy) Bennett and Allison (Matthew) Schick; grandchildren, Tyler (Brooke) Bennett, Sierra (Kevin) Bennett, Megan Bennett, Tanner (Pilar) Hardwick, Jordan Hardwick, and Trey Hardwick; and great grandsons, Anakin Ford and Oakley Hardwick.

The family would like to thank the staff from Kingston Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for their kind care of Gary in his last days.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1st at Hampton Park Christian Church, 4727 W Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH 43623. There will be visitation from 10 am to 12 pm with the service starting at noon.
