Frederick James VanderPol, joined the angels in heaven at the age of 78, at home on April 25 2020, Oak Harbor, OH. He is survived by his wife, Darlene VanderPol (Burns) of 22 years. Fred was born in Toledo, OH on June 25, 1941, to Edward and Mary Margarete VanderPol. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School, Toledo, OH, in 1959. He served in the United States Marines during 1959-1967. Fred was married to Linda Shea during 1962-1987. Fred and Linda had 4 children: Brent VanderPol, Mark (Carla) VanderPol, Cindy (James) Hannum and Todd VanderPol. Their grandchildren are Chelsea, Nathan, Riley, Casey, Reis, Mary Megan and Regan. Their great-grandchildren are Gunnar, Harper, Vivianne, and Jaxson. He is also survived by his siblings, Jeffery VanderPol and Diane Driscoll. Fred is preceded in death by his son, Brent Frederick VanderPol and grandson, Sean Steven Shadix. Fred has two step-children Dawn (Scott) Coleman and Heidi (Tom) Myers. He also has 6 step-grandchildren Victoria, Alexander, Samantha, Evan, Andrew and Jacob; 3 step-great grandchildren Emmah, William and Chandler. Fred loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays. Fishing, boating and being near Lake Erie were passions of his. He also loved gardening and was so excited to share the fruit and vegetables that he grew. He was a respected entrepreneur with his career spanning 50 years in construction and excavating. Fred loved wildlife. Contributions in his honor can be made to Back to the Wild, 4504 Bardshar Rd., Castalia, OH 44824, where Fred and Darlene took several animals for rehabilitation. A memorial to celebrate Fred’s passion for life will be held at future date in the summer of 2020, when we can all gather together.
