Frederick E. Lauffer

Frederick Edward Lauffer passed away on January 27, 2021 at Flower Hospital Ebeid Center. He was born on April 28, 1930, to Charlotte and Frederick C. Lauffer. A 1948 graduate of Devilbiss High School, he lettered in Football and Track for four years. Fred graduated from The University of Toledo with a Bachelor's Degree in Business in Administration. He played football for The University Of Toledo Rockets, was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and ROTC. In 1952, Fred and Leta Kuenzle were married at Augsburg Lutheran Church. They were married for 68 years and had four children. Fred served in the US Army and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. He was employed by Owens Illinois, during which time he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, from the University of Toledo. In the early 70's, Fred formed a Land Development and Residential Building company and then went on to start one of the areas first Residential and Commercial Inspection Companies. Fred loved radio, sports, reading, always learning new things and willing to help anyone. He loved gardening and cultivating Dahlias. He shared them with many friends, family and his physician's offices. Fred and Leta were Rocket season ticket holders for many years and enjoyed Tailgating in lot 10. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Nadrasik; his daughter, Lynn (Rick) Tolland; and sons, Thomas and Steven. He is survived by his wife, Leta; daughter, Lori (Todd) Snyder; son-in-law, Richard Tolland, (Always Ricky to Fred); 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great-grandchildren. A private family Service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to give a memorial are asked to consider Flower Hospital Ebeid Center, The University of Toledo Athletic Department, or any charity of their choice.
