Franklin H. Ohlemacher, Jr.

February 27, 1938 — December 25, 2025

Sandusky

Franklin Henry "Bud" Ohlemacher, Jr., passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, in Sandusky, Ohio. He was 87 years old. Born on February 27, 1938, in Sandusky, Ohio, Bud spent his life rooted in the community he loved. A proud graduate of Port Clinton High School’s Class of 1956, he went on to dedicate more than three decades of service to Miller Boat Line, where he worked for 36 years.

Bud shared a remarkable 67-year marriage with his beloved wife, Irene (Hales) Ohlemacher. Together they built a strong and loving family that now spans four generations. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Ken (Becky) Ohlemacher, Scott (Melissa) Ohlemacher, and Angela (Andy) Gresh; grandchildren: Jason (Ariel) Ohlemacher, Erika Brown, Amanda Iwanski (Danna Green), Adam (Dr. Layla Shirkoda) Ohlemacher, Cory (Stacey) Brown, Nicole (Louis) Runner, and Kyle Brown; great-grandchildren: Madison "Milo", Joseph, Vincent, Logan, Alex, Trey, Addie Jo, Darius, and Kennedy. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Amadea Ohlemacher; and sisters, Joyce Woodman, Lois Knipple, and Corlyn Kindt.

Bud had a zest for life that was reflected in his many hobbies. He enjoyed bowling, where he served as president of Port Clinton Men’s Bowling Association. He enjoyed hunting but found particular joy fishing off the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama, where they vacationed for many years. One of his most cherished pastimes was crafting whimsical fish out of bottles—handmade gifts he delighted in giving to his grandchildren and all the children that came into the Elks Sunday Breakfasts.

A dedicated member of the Elks Lodge #1718 for 52 years, Bud served as Tiler during his tenure. His commitment to community extended further through his role as Training Captain of the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department—a position that reflected both leadership and service.

Bud’s legacy is one of devotion—to family, to community service, and to the simple joys that brought people together. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all whose lives he touched.

Private services will be held at later date. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and volunteers at Stein Hospice in Sandusky for their amazing care and compassion they provided for Bud. Those wishing to donate in Bud’s memory are asked to consider Stein Hospice, Sandusky Ohio or Port Clinton Elks Lodge #1718.
