Evelyn J Jo Eickel

Evelyn Joan [Jo} Eickel passed away on Thursday, September 23, at Toledo Hospital after suffering a stroke. She was born on May 1, 1936, in Morgan County, Ohio and was the daughter of Dale Gilliland and Dorothy Rex Gilliland, both deceased. She is survived by her husband, Robert Eickel [of Elmore], daughter Nancy Eickel [of Kensington, Maryland], granddaughters Laura Cohen [of San Francisco], and Anne Cohen [of Athens, Georgia], and siblings Esther, Ruth, and Dave. Her sons Jay and a baby, Robert, as well as her son-in-law W. David Cohen, predeceased her.Joan graduated valedictorian of her class at McConnelsville High School in 1953. She then attended Otterbein College and worked at Battelle Institute in Columbus. She spent many years working as a teachers aide throughout Sandusky County. She was also active as a Girl Scout troop leader and a member of MADD. Her favorite pasttimes were sewing, cooking, reading and most of all, being a generous and doting grandmother.A memorial service for Jo will be held in southern Ohio on May 1, 2011 [her 75th birthday].
