Elloise Hope Slotterbeck

June 23, 1948 — June 6, 2022

Elloise Hope Slotterbeck, 73, of Wauseon, Ohio, passed away on Monday June 6, 2022 at Toledo Hospital after battling chronic inflammatory, pulmonary and cardiac illnesses. Born June 23, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio, Ellie was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Mariel Shipman and older sister Sharon Gilchrist (Jay). She spent her childhood years in Toledo and later graduated from Bowsher High School in 1966 where she met her surviving husband Linden Slotterbeck. While she initially attended Adrian College, Ellie achieved her bachelor's degree after attending Bowling Green State University; then later marrying Linden to become “Falcon Flames” on May 16, 1970. This last May, they celebrated 52 years of marriage. After attending BGSU, her service as a child educator spanned over 30 years throughout Northwest Ohio from her start as a teacher at Washington Local Schools and in the Evergreen Public Schools district. She later received her masters degree from the University of Toledo and continued her career as a Gifted and Talented teacher and coordinator at Evergreen, Napoleon, and Maumee Public Schools until retirement. She had a high passion for education and providing the best opportunities for learning in the districts she served through direct teaching of students, as well as mentoring; establishing herself as a thought leader in the region for incoming teachers and administrators. In addition to Linden, Ellie is survived by her two sons: Brandon Slotterbeck and his wife Jade of Toledo, Ohio with grandchildren Eric and Annika, and Rylin Slotterbeck and his wife Amy of Gahanna, Ohio with grandchildren Kevin and Sean. She was also loved by many uncles, aunts, cousins, and cherished by many friends and co-workers. In addition to her love of gardening, flowers, hummingbirds, and nature, she loved being there for her kids as they were growing up. She always opened up the home to their friends providing pizza and Mountain Dew and hosting fun get-togethers. She was at school, band, theater, and chorale events supporting them through their high school years and beyond. Her ties to the community continued even to her last days as she created lasting relationships with those who helped around the house as her health declined. She will always be remembered for creating long-lasting, loving relationships with family, friends, and community…she always had stories and news to tell for all those who called or visited. At Ellie’s request, no funeral or services will be held. As she was challenged by the condition for years, in lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation to the National Scleroderma Foundation at https://scleroderma.org/ways-to-give/.
