Fritz Wolfram, age 68, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 30, 2024. He was born in Columbus, Indiana on August 30, 1955, to Zula and Edward Wolfram Jr.
Fritz had many friends including those from the schools he attended, St. Richard Elementary, St. John's Jesuit and BGSU. His primary career was as a stay-at-home father.
For decades Fritz was the Otsego Quiz Bowl coach for elementary, junior high and high school. He also volunteered at his church in many capacities including cantor, council member, and bell choir. In his final year he proudly served on the Weston Library Board. He informally mentored nieces, nephews, and friends of his sons, many of whom were at his bedside in his last two weeks.
The heart of Fritz's life was his family. Always concerned with proper nutrition he admonished the grandchildren, "Eat that, it's good for you, it will make your poop slick." and then he'd sneak them cookies and candy. Older members of the family knew that he would contradict them even if he agreed with them. When he finally said "actually" they knew a long explanation would follow and their side of the conversation was essentially over. His boisterous personality was evident in all aspects of his life and many times his wife asked if anyone had heard Fritz when looking for him in a crowd. He delighted in being outrageous and often narrowly avoided "Facebook Jail."
Fritz was a lifelong Indy Car fan and he attended more than 50 Indy 500s. He coordinated tickets, camping and food for dozens of people over the years. One of his last activities was making sure the tickets needed for this year were ordered and available.
Fritz was preceded in death by his son, Christopher; his parents; sister, Paula and dear friends Jay and dale. He is survived by his wife, Marie; sons Edward (Leslie), Matthew (Krissy), John, Mark (Leah Waggoner) and Andrew (Beth Schwartz); grandchildren, Tristan, Leah, Aedan, Elias, Marth, Ephraim, Katie, Dylan, Ophie, Kain, Renoa, and Ashlyn; siblings, Ian, and Roxanne.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick Providence Church 14010 S. River Rd, Grand Rapids OH on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11 AM. Interment will be private.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Bon Secours Mercy Perrysburg and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the amazing care they provided for Fritz.
Those wishing to donate in his memory are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Bittersweet Farms or Otsego Local Schools. Fritz would also have appreciated flowers to plant in the yard.
