Douglas Tansel

Douglas Brook Tansel passed away on May 8, 2023, at the age of 73. He departed this world at Lake Seneca, surrounded by family; exactly as he would have wanted it. Doug bravely and quietly battled illness, along with the unrelenting support and love of his wife Sandra. She was with him all the way as they enjoyed the life they created for more than 53 years.

Along with Sandi, Doug leaves behind his children Tyler Tansel (Sarah) and Brooke Seiler (Paul), as well as 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and finally his “Pretty Girl” Poppi.

After 47 years at Hammill Mfg. Doug and Sandi retired to the “Dam Green House” at Lake Seneca. This house was the result of Doug’s years of work as he had been imagining lake life for as long as he could remember. He envisioned a place for family, fun, relaxation, and the creation of memories. His vision became reality as the ‘DGH’ became the place to fish, grill, jet ski, and upon occasion, take the slowest pontoon boat ride possible around the lake, while Doug dispensed wisdom and the history of the lake. Doug was responsible for the 4th of July becoming an event at Lake Seneca, drawing huge crowds on lawns and in boats to witness that year’s fireworks extravaganza. Many terrible and a few passable karaoke songs were sung, and countless pounds of Doug’s famous chicken wings were greedily consumed. Lastly and most importantly Doug left us all worse off as we lost a truly selfless friend and neighbor. Doug was always available to give a hand, lend a tool, or just generally “be there” if the need arose.

Doug’s family would like to thank the family and friends who came to see him while he was sick. The family would like to especially thank Tony and Erica for being such tremendous neighbors.He will be missed dearly.

We will be having a celebration of life on June 4 from 2pm to 5pm at Lake Seneca Lodge, 233 Seneca Dr. Montpelier, OH 43543. Lunch provided.
