Douglas Allen Leestma

Douglas Allen Leestma (Doug), age 68, passed away peacefully April 4, 2023 at Flower Hospital after a short battle with cancer. He was born December 8, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio to Alvin F. Leetma and Shirley W. (Walker) Leestma.

Doug attended Start High School in Toledo, Ohio. He worked at BW Auto Paint as a Manager for 46 years and National Coding for 2 years.

Doug looked forward to their yearly family reunions and enjoyed family gatherings with his children and grandchildren.

Doug had many hobbies and interests. He was an avid pool shooter, loved restoring his classic mustang, enjoyed boating and water skiing, and attended classic car shows almost every weekend during the summer. Doug was a 4th Degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus, and belonged to the Toledo Area Street Rods Car Club. Doug’s love for animals lead him to foster many kittens and cats for Planned Pethood. He also loved his church, The Historic Church of St. Patrick, where he was an acolyte.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents Alvin F. and Shirley W. Leestma.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years Charlene Leestma and shared a large blended family.His brothers Steve and (Mary) Leestma, David and (Carmen) Leestma, Brian and (BeLinda) Leestma and Anthony Leestma; sons, Jeremy and (Danielle) Leestma and Richard and (Emily) Leestma; children, Michael and (Marlene) Meyers, Kevin Meyers, and Angela and (Matthew) Ruyf. Grandchildren Jacob, Tyrone, True and Owen Leestma, Melissa, Matthew, McKenzie, Madeline and Dylan Meyers and Draven Benci; great grandchild Nova Meyers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the 7th Floor Nursing Staff at Flower Hospital for the amazing care they provided for Doug.

Visitation will start at 10:00 am  at The Historic Church of St. Patrick, 130 Avondale Avenue, Toledo, on Saturday, April 29, 2023 followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Regina Coeli Parish, Kotz Hall, 530 Regina Parkway, following the Funeral Mass, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm.
