Douglas Frederick Abodeely, age 70, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully Monday, September 5th, 2022, at Ebeid Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 8th, 1952 to Frederick and Nellie (Saba) Abodeely in Toledo.
After a successful business career that included running a local steel company, Doug became an entrepreneur prior to his retirement. He enjoyed golf and never walked by a poker table without the desire to play. Beyond the love of competition and battles of the mind, Doug was driven by social connections. He did everything in his power to connect with others on a level that was deeper than most could imagine. Doug’s most impactful contributions to others were often unseen as a result.
His greatest passion in the later stages of life became his grandchildren. While his unique and powerful relationship with his son was apparent to all that knew him, his grandchildren and his wife were his guiding lights during a decade-long battle with cancer that showcased his fighting spirit. Doug was loved and respected by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Doug is survived by his wife, Laura Hentges Abodeely, his son, Jason Douglas Abodeely, his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jacob and Lauren Abodeely, his step-son, Bryan Ortyl, a beautiful new grandson to be born soon, and many extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Santus & Valerie Kopp.
The family would like to convey their special gratitude to his cousin and lifelong friend, Mark Fisher, and to all of the staff and caregivers at Hickman Cancer Center for their loving care and support throughout his courageous fight.
Plans for a service will privately be communicated at a later date. Those wishing to make monetary donations in Doug’s memory are asked to consider Sunshine Communities (https://www.sunshine.org/donate-2/memorial-or-honorarium/).
