Doris Mae (Smith) Jeffers passed away the morning of January 10, 2023 at the age of 82. Born prematurely in a snowstorm, her introverted nature and commitment to family were clear from the beginning. Doris grew up in Great Falls, South Carolina and the surrounding Appalachian foothills. As an Air Force wife, she lived all over the United States and Germany, raising three daughters and gaining a taste for adventures big and small as well as a collection of maps. Her final stopping point was Ohio, where for 30 years she enjoyed swimming, crocheting, going to the movies, and living in her perfect-sized home.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Dennis Lee and John Delmar. Doris is survived by her three daughters and their partners: Alice Jeffers, Lauren and Frank Reynolds, and Elizabeth Jeffers and Brian Horton; and her three grandchildren, Aaron King, Samantha Reynolds, and Wyatt Reynolds. They will all remember her whenever they ask for extra napkins, need a pair of warm socks, or have exceptional luck during a game of Liverpool Rummy.
A memorial will be planned at a later date; in lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations be made in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. Doris’ family would like to thank the staff of Astor House for Assisted Living for the care they gave to her during the time she was living there. The family is also grateful to the staff of Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, the UTMC Senior Behavioral Health team, Mercy Health St. Charles Hospital, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
