Donald G. Winfrey

Donald G. “Don” Winfrey, 74, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away from cancer on Friday, July 16, 2021 at home with his family by his side. He was born August 9, 1946 in Toledo to Virgil and Oneda (Vann) Winfrey. Don is survived by his wife Tina, whom he married December 31, 1988. Also surviving are stepchildren, Kristina (Holdren) Newsome, Tanya (Holdren) Prater, Thomas Holdren; step grandchildren, Collin Newsome, Addison Newsome, Brice Holdren, Jacob Holdren and Sloane Prater; brothers Lynn (Sharon) Winfrey, Jeff (Tammy) Winfrey, sister Cindy Winfrey; and Toby his beloved dog. He is preceded in death by his father Virgil (Mary) Winfrey; mother Oneda (Don) Brown; and sister Louise Winfrey Breedfeld. Don graduated from Whitmer High School in 1964 and graduated from the University of Toledo where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in the United States Air Force 1968 -1972 with a tour of Vietnam. He retired from Allstate Insurance Company as a Casualty Claims Manager after 32 years. He was a member of the Trilby National Exchange Club (serving as Secretary & President) and The Maumee Elks Fraternal Organization. Don enjoyed playing golf, traveling, fishing, boating, working in the yard and was a big Detroit Tigers fan. A Celebration of Life for family & friends will be held on July 25, 2021 at 12:00 pm at the Waterside Clubhouse 7062 Longwater Drive, Maumee, OH 43537. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of NW Ohio.
