Donald Morris Martens Jr. age 74 passed away peacefully February 22, 2023 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg after a long, brave battle against Pancreatic cancer.
He was born August 30, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio to Donald Morris Martens and Ida Mae Hummel. He attended Whitmer High School where he later graduated. Don worked for the City of Toledo Sewer Maintenance and retired after 30+ years. He also worked for Doheney Supplies delivering and receiving sewer trucks throughout the United States for many years.
Don had two brother's, Gary and Douglas. He also had one sister, Patty. He was a supportive and unconditional loving father of three daughters, Diane, Lori (Bo) and Penny (Kenny). Also two sons, Donnie and Jason (Tina). He had seven grandchildren, Jared, Jaime, Jessica, Darrin, Jacob, T.J. and Aaron, and two great grandchildren along with cousins, nieces and nephews who will greatly miss him.
Last but not least, his long time friend Luann Pettis, ex wife and good friend Deborah O'Neil. Don also remained friends with ex wife Doris Martens.
Don loved fishing, hunting, guns, NASCAR and family time. He had a big heart for all animals, even strays. He loved chocolate shakes, Frosty's and ice cream. His favorite events to attend were any festivals, but mostly the Strawberry Festival and the German American Festival. We will continue to attend those events in his honor.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, his grandson Jared and daughter Diane as well as many other loving family members.
Those surviving and left behind will cherish every memory, every laugh, every joke and every thought. We will miss him more than words could ever express. He loved with his whole heart and many people looked up to him as a father, friend and great neighbor. Don was selfless and looked out for everyone who needed him with no questions asked.
We ask that you continue to keep our family in prayer as we heal from this great loss. In honor of Don we ask that donations be made to the Toledo Lucas County Humane Society.
There will be a memorial for him when the weather breaks. Please contact the family via E-mail (penny.lee78@yahoo.com)
and we will notify you of a date and time when it's scheduled.
Thank you from all of us for loving him!
