Donald Ralph Corfman, 84, passed away September 26, 2017 in Toledo, Ohio. He was born on August 18, 1933 in Wyandot County, Ohio to Fred and Hilda (Schindler) Corfman. Don graduated from Nevada High School in 1951 and from Bluffton College in 1955, later receiving Masters Degrees from both the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University. He married his bride, Cynthia (Conrad) Corfman, on September 15, 1956. Don was the Chairman of the Math Department at Whitmer High School before retiring in 1992, he also taught Aviation at Whitmer after receiving his pilots license. After retiring Don continued his love for teaching at Owens Community College, the University of Toledo, and Monroe County Community College. Besides being dedicated to his students, Don was an advocate for teachers; he was a charter member of TAWLS (Teachers Association of Washington Local Schools), which was started in the late 50s, and the district organization NWOEA (North West Ohio Education Association), which brought together teacher leaders from most of the school systems in the area. Don served as an officer and president of both of those groups, and a lot of his free time was spent working for the state OEA and NEA (Ohio Education Association and National Education Association) organizations. Don enjoyed traveling during his retirement years with his wife, covering 5 continents and most of the United States. He also enjoyed collecting and researching antique Indian motorcycles. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Cynthia; children, Julie (Doug) Cory, David (Patty) Corfman, and Liz (Dan) Cunningham; grandchildren, Nicholas and Alyse Cory, Brad and Kelly Corfman, and Taylor, Travis and Lexi Cunningham; and siblings, Eileen (Jim) Steinhilber and Dale (Betsy) Corfman. “Don was preceded in death by his parents. Family and friends are invited to gather at 1pm on October 15, 2017 at Collingwood Presbyterian Church in Toledo. A memorial service will begin immediately following at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Collingwood Presbyterian Church.
