Donald J. Bensch, Sr

Donald “Don” James Bensch Sr, 56, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on April 2, 2023.

Don was born on May 15, 1966 in Toledo, Ohio to Denny (Rooney) Bensch. He was raised in Toledo by Denny and Edward “Bud” Bensch. Don attended Morrison R Waite High School, Stautzenberger College and The University of Toledo, where he worked in system administration and network security. Don was a brilliant and intelligent man; he was a lifetime learner and inspired those around him to learn, find the facts, and take in all the information this world has to offer.

Don married his lifetime love, Luann, in May of 1985 and they had three children, Jessica, DJ, and Amanda, and two grandchildren, Phoenix and Ana. Becoming a papa brought Don absolute joy. He loved spending time with his granddaughters building LEGO, playing video games, and passing on to them his love for learning.

Don will be missed by his wife Luann (Starkloff) Bensch; children, Jessica Bensch, Donald “DJ” (Elise) Bensch Jr, and Amanda (Timithy Sloan) Bensch; grandchildren Phoenix DeLeon and Anastasia Sloan; mother, Denny (Rooney) Bensch; siblings Rocky (Carol) Bensch, Trudy Bensch, Penny (Jeff) Handy, and Pattie (Greg) Niese; brother-in-law William “Bill” Starkloff, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Edward “Bud” Bensch; grandparents Robert “Bob” and Irene Hessey and Dennis Rooney.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the care Don received from Hospice of Northwest Ohio during his final days.
