Diane Marie McGilvery (Lorenzen), passed away at 8 pm sharp on April 5, 2024 after complications stemming from a stroke. Her final moments were spent peacefully in the care of compassionate Hospice of Northwest Ohio staff, surrounded by family.
Known for her fortitude and desire to give voice to those who were overlooked, Diane served her community as an administrative nurse, community activist, the first woman mayor of Whitehouse, and as an entrepreneur with her husband. She also enjoyed creating whimsical pieces of art in all different mediums to bring joy to those she gifted them to.
Diane will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Diane’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Dorothy Lorenzen; father and mother-in-law, Washington Irving and Mary McGilvery; and her husband, Patrick McGilvery.
She is survived by her sister, Rita Bliss; sons, Scott (Manee) Lorenzen, Dan Yohnke, Ben (Kaitlyn) McGilvery, Sam (Ashley) McGilvery; grandchildren, Matthew, Cheyenne, Brooklyn, Madison, Claire, Faith, Ethan, Emily, Charlie; great grandchild, Lela; and her beloved dog, Tide.
A ceremony will be held at Church of the Cross, 1750 Eastgate Road, Toledo, OH 43614. The family will receive friends and family there on Saturday, May 25, 2024, from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 12, Noon with a luncheon immediately following. Flowers and memorials are welcome but not necessary.
