Derrick “Domino” Owens, age 61, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, with his wife of 38 years by his side. Born in Toledo, OH, Derrick was a man who lived life to the fullest and touched the hearts of everyone he met.
Derrick is survived by his loving wife, Mindy Owens, and their children: Lindsay (Pete) Sanders, Craig (Katie) Herbster, Angela (Jon) Alt, and Erica Owens. He was a proud Papa to Alexis Counselman, Kazley Alt, Macie Herbster, Presleigh Sanders, Sam Sanders, and Leo Alt. Derrick was preceded in death by his father, Howard Owens; his mother, Rose Owens; and his sister, Athena Lambo.
Derrick was a proud truck driver by trade, spending much of his career on the road doing what he loved. He was also a dedicated lifetime member of the Centurions Motorcycle Club, where he made lifelong friendships and enjoyed the loyalty of the CMC brotherhood. One of his favorite events was riding his Harley at the Ring of Fire party, where he felt truly free, surrounded by his brothers and the roar of engines. A true animal lover, Derrick had a special bond with his dog, Jack, often watching his favorite show, Gunsmoke, together. He was an avid supporter of the Detroit Lions and lived for the thrill of their victories—this season’s successes were a particular source of pride for him. Derrick also cherished his family vacations to Puerto Rico, weekend road trips with Mindy, and watching his grandkids play sports, which brought him endless joy.
Known for his sense of humor, Derrick loved playing pranks, telling jokes, and spending Friday mornings enjoying breakfast with friends of 40 years at Coney Island. His laughter and positive energy were contagious, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Derrick’s honor at the Centurions Motorcycle Club on Saturday, January 25th, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at 1501 Whitehouse Spencer Road, Swanton, OH. Casual attire, Detroit Lions and Harley-Davidson apparel is ENCOURAGED. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Bedford Township Veterans Center. https://bedfordtwpvets.com/
