Denny Leach, 83, Toledo, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 1, 2024. Denny was a lifelong member of the Toledo Community.
He was blessed to have a loving family and he passed the way he wanted to – peacefully in his sleep. He graduated from Waite High School. Out of high school, Denny majored in Dentistry but left school to work to support his mother and brother.
Denny was a great athlete and played many sports but was masterful at sailing, music, and chess. In 1962, Denny volunteered to join and served honorably in the Coast Guard. After leaving the Coast Guard, he was a small business owner. Later, he would graduate from Rhema Bible Training College and pastor Good News Christian Fellowship for many years. He taught himself to read Greek and spent the last several years learning to read Hebrew. He was the best resource to ask biblical questions as he spent 50 years reading and studying the Scriptures for hours each day.
As a young man, he played guitar, banjo, keyboard, and harmonica by ear and, decades later, taught himself to read sheet music. He used his musical talents as Worship Leader and gave his grandson, David, a love of playing guitar and keyboard and Denny was proud to have David follow in his footsteps as Worship Pastor. Denny enjoyed surprising people. Weekly he would purchase a box of chocolates to give to his wife or daughter or purchase gadgets to give to his grandchildren or a product for his grandpuppy, Harley. His exceptionally fantastic sense of humor and quick wit kept us all laughing.
He was Husband, Dad, Grandpa Denny/ “Bub”, Great Grandpa, friend, and much more to many people. He was the epitome of penny wise and pound generous. He was a veteran, American Patriot, loved serving his country, and treasured his family and friends and discussing Christianity and politics.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Frank Leach; brothers, Larry and Tom; and nephew, Matthew. He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of over 57 years, Toni. He is also survived by sister, Marilyn Leach; brother-in-law, Rick (Karen) Palm; daughter, Jennifer (Greg) Whitlow; grandchildren, Kyle (Alyssa) Whitlow, David (Casey) Whitlow, and Alex Whitlow; great grandchildren, Braxton, Sabrina, Adaline, Kymber, and Colt; niece, Stephanie Neves; nephews, Christopher (Alisa) Palm and Justin (Nina) Leach; 1 great niece; 6 great nephews; and several surrogate grandchildren.
A private celebration of his life, accomplishments, and endearing stories will take place at a later date.
