Dennis "Denny" Eugene Gamertsfelder, 76, of Fremont, Ohio passed away February 16, 2026 at Fremont Hospital. During treatments he bravely volunteered for clinical trials to help advance cancer research. Denny was born April 23, 1949 in Fremont, Ohio to Owen Franklin and Willah Jane (Mitchell) Gamertsfelder. On September 27, 1975 he married the love of his life Paula Jean Sheidler in Burgoon, Ohio. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Valerie Jean Gamertsfelder; son, Jay Moses Gamertsfelder; sister, Sally Kato; brother, Don (Brenda) Gamertsfelder; brother Jon (Joyce) Gamertsfelder; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Gamertsfelder.
Denny graduated from Lakota High School in 1967. While in high school he played golf and made many lifelong friends. He went on to attend Bowling Green State University and was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. Denny would go on to work at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) based in Green Springs, and Beck Suppliers of Fremont. He loved being outside and working with young people at the CCC and enjoyed being on the road for Beck.
As a young father he helped coach soccer and T-ball. He also taught many youngsters how to take their first motorcycle ride. He loved being on two wheels or four, for a short ride down to the river or a family road trip. He spent time in the summers trying to splash life guards with a can opener off the high dive at Bettsville Park and camping with friends at Meadowbrook Park. He loved being out in nature close to his home, cutting wood with friends or taking his four wheeler for a spin to check in with the neighbors. Denny always had his tunes playing, too, and loved bopping around at concerts - often after he had found a way to get in free.
Denny enjoyed taking his family on vacations to the Great Smoky Mountains, Canada, Niagara Falls, and the Florida Keys as well as travels to South America and Mexico. Denny also had plenty of adventures out West with friends and family on the slopes in Utah, visiting family and friends in California and traveling with family to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Grand Canyon National Park. He loved sailing on Lake Erie and hiking around Chimney Rock NC. Denny just loved living life. He was a light and provided joy to everyone he was around.
Thank you to his loving family members, great friends, and wonderful neighbors for all your support.
In lieu of services at this time, Paula Jean will work with family and friends to have a Celebration of Life (or as Denny would say, a Big Party) on April 25, 2026 at The Front 9 in Kansas, Ohio from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Additionally, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to People for Peace and Justice Sandusky County, c/o Alysan Azman, Treasurer, 1835 Oak Lane, Fremont, Ohio 43420.
