DR. DEAN DOERING ERSIG
- Son, brother, student, graduate, husband, Medical Doctor, Lieutenant (Navy), father, grandfather, great grandfather, missionary, mentor, Christ follower.
Dr. Dean D. Ersig went to be with the Lord and reunited with his wife, Carolyn Ersig, on September 12, 2024. He was born to Dr. Harold Ersig DDS, and Marie Ersig, a schoolteacher, in March of 1938. Dean had a sister in 1940, attended school in Toledo, and went on to graduate from Burnham High School. After high school, Dean attended the University of Toledo, where he graduated in three years, and went on to The Ohio State University College of Medicine. With this education, he became a doctor, specializing in family medicine. Next, he entered the Navy as a Lieutenant and was stationed at Moffat Naval Air Station from 1964-1966, where he was honorably discharged. Dr. Ersig practiced family medicine from 1966-1997, amassing over 5,000 regular patients under his care.
Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Florida. There, Dr. Ersig was employed by Word of Life, where he worked in a "free" clinic for over twenty-two years taking care of patients without health insurance. He went on more than sixty medical mission trips to Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Haiti, over that twenty five-year period. His wife served alongside him in the areas of kitchen, hospitality, and helped the ladies in her care. They made a great team.
Dean was preceded in death by parents, Dr. Harold Ersig, in 1971, and Marie Ersig, in 1999; and wife, Carolyn Ersig, in 2019. He is survived by children, Clay (Sarah) Ersig, Chris (Susie) Ersig, Kelley (Jim) Abear, and Michael (Heather) Ersig; grandchildren, Andrew (Madison) Ersig,Ava Ersig, Clay Ersig Jr., Tilman Piper Ersig, Matthew (Leed) Miller, Michael Miller, Jonathan (Ashley) Miller, Sarah Miller, Morgan (Tino) Vergiels, Alyssa Ersig, Dean Ersig and Dillon Ersig; great-grandchildren, Brantley Ratzlaff, Asher Ratzlaff, William Vergiels, and Lincoln Vergiels.
His favorite verse was "But God demonstrates His great Love for Us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8
