Darlene Osenbaugh Zawacki passed away peacefully from her injuries after a fall at home at the young age of 70 on September 23, 2022. Darlene grew up on Lake Erie boating with her parents and Toledo’s East Side. Darlene wore many hats in her lifetime: daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Darlene had a varied career from selling shoes, running the restaurant at a yacht club, and until her retirement, she was a banker at the Toledo Fire Fighters Federal Credit Union.
Darlene loved her family, her animals, lighthouses and was a secret Treke’, collecting the holiday ornaments over the years. She even learned to use the internet on her TV to watch Star Trek Discovery and Picard. She was an incredible cook and made the best beer battered fried chicken, buckeyes, and holiday dinners. She was a strong intelligent woman; it was mom that stayed up assembling our toys or hooking up Dad’s stereo system. There was never a problem mom couldn’t work out. When we saw her tool box we knew she was on it. Growing up mom had the loudest voice on the block. When mom called us home, ALL THE KIDS went home.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, William and Norma Jean (Rawlings) Osenbaugh; sister, Diane Mernard; brother, “Butch” Osenbaugh, and most recently this past January, her husband of 49 years Michael. She is survived by her two daughters, Julie David (Joe Nagy) and Christine (Mike) Nuhfer; grandchildren, Alexis and Morgan David, and Elizabeth and Spencer Nuhfer; Michael (Haley) Zawacki, and many friends and family.
She will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Both mom and dad were in need of blood during their illness; in lieu of flowers please consider donating to a local blood bank in their memory.
