Obituary

Dan Grant, age 68, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully in hospice care, surrounded by those who loved him. Dan lived a life defined by loyalty, grit, and an unwavering dedication to hard work — qualities that shaped everything he touched.

Dan spent more than forty years in the commercial flooring and interior contracting industry, earning a reputation for craftsmanship, straight talk, and reliability. He owned and operated Decorative Flooring Services for over two decades before continuing his career in leadership and project management roles throughout Ohio and Florida. Later in life, he expanded his entrepreneurial spirit by owning Shawn’s Back Door, a neighborhood restaurant he ran for five years with the same determination and hands‑on commitment he brought to every job.

Outside of work, Dan was a fierce advocate for animals. He cared deeply for the strays in his community and personally built shelters for the feral cats in his neighborhood — a quiet, steady act of compassion that reflected his character more than any sentiment ever could.

He is survived by his daughters, Nichole O’Rourke and Cheryl Thorpe; his grandsons, Grant O’Rourke and Hunter Pauley; his longtime friend and partner, Lisa Wood; his beloved mini‑schnauzer, Max; and his three brothers and two sisters.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, whose care and compassion supported Dan and his family during his final days.
