Cynthia S. (Ennis) Papenfus, 74, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025. She was born on January 19, 1951, in Catabwa Island, Ohio, to Doris (Stahl) and Dale Ennis.
She graduated Port Clinton High School, in 1969, where she met her lifelong best friend, Mary Jo. When her family decided to move to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after her graduation, she made the brave choice to go to Riverside Nursing School, in Toledo, Ohio, where she specialized in gerontology, so she could work with the aging. While at school, she had her first date with William (Bill) Papenfus, on April 7,1970, which was a set up by one of his sisters and his mother. She graduated nursing school in 1972, and married Bill on August 19, 1972.
She was employed as a nurse at the Lutheran Old Folks Home, Waterford Commons, and then the Area Office on Aging. She retired from nursing after 42 years on January 1, 2015. While retired, she was able to enjoy her many favorite activities and volunteered at the La Posada Family Emergency Shelter.
Her favorite activities included scrapbooking, alterered art projects, antiquing, discovering new places to go, and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.
She is survived by her children, Gregory (Kelly) Papenfus and Suzannah (Howard) Haley; three grandchildren, Lily Papenfus, Abby Papenfus and Logan Haley; her sister, Kathy Ennis; brother, Michael Ennis; her five sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her aunts, uncles and cousins from the Stahl and Ennis family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Papenfus; her parents, Doris (Stahl) and Dale Ennis and her sister-in-law, Stacey Ennis.
Her family will be having a private dinner at her request. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association.
