Clyde E. Wampler, Jr., age 51, passed away early Monday morning, March 10th, 2025 in the emergency room at The University of Toledo Medical Center, with his partner holding his hand and some of his family nearby. Clyde was born on August 5th, 1973 to proud parents, Clyde E. Wampler, Sr. and Patricia (Durtka) Wampler in Ypsilanti, MI.
As a child and throughout his entire life, Clyde has been an avid lover of hunting and fishing, just like his dad and grandfather, as well as a firearms enthusiast. Clyde attended Belleville High School, growing up, where he joined the Tech Center, and began his lifelong career as a very talented welder and mechanic. This experience and guidance propelled him forward into a career that began at Kitty Hawk International as a welder and mechanic on aircraft, until operations ceased in 2000. Around this time, he had two amazing children, who he adored, named Dakota and Alyssa. Being an involved and loving dad was always something he highly prioritized in his life. He went on to work for Crawford Door as an Installer/Tech for a few years before joining USA truck as a long haul truck driver. After driving cross country for 8 years, he moved to Monroe, MI and began working at The Sygma Network, as a Diesel Mechanic. He stayed there until 2022, when he was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure and became permanently disabled. He moved to Toledo, Ohio to be with his loving partner of 7 years, Lyndsi, who helped him to fight his battle with heart failure and kidney disease until the very end. One of Clyde’s proudest moments was becoming a grandfather in December 2023. He was blessed with his grandson which he had hoped for for many years. He had a self proclaimed, “Gift of gab,” and his stories, jokes, and overall genuinely unique personality will be sorely missed by anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting him, and all who loved him dearly.
Clyde is survived by his mother, Patricia (Karl Holtwick) Wampler (Durtka); his uncles, Tom (Doris) Wampler and James (Jib) Wampler; his aunts, Jennie (Jerry) Burgan and Barbara (John) Thomas; his sister, Emily (Jesse) Bratton; his partner and fiance, Lyndsi Bortles; his son, Dakota (Jennifer Wedge) Wampler; his daughter, Alyssa (Toni Williams) Wampler; his only grandchild, Dakota Wampler, Jr.; and his step-children-to-be, Grace Enix, Drake and Maci Shellhammer. He was also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry (Dorothy) Durtka; and Edward (Vida) Wampler; his father, Clyde E. Wampler, Sr.; his uncles, Jerry Durtka and Raymond Durtka; and his older brother, Jerry Ray Johnson.
Clyde is being cremated at The Cremation Society of Toledo according to his final wishes, and a memorial service to honor and celebrate Clyde’s life will be held this spring at an undetermined location. In lieu of flowers, please consider the needs of his partner and family at this time.
