Christine Tierney

Christine Marie Tierney, age 59, of Toledo, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 15, 2021, after a short illness. She was born in Toledo, Ohio. Chris attended DeVilbiss High School. Although she did not graduate, education was important to her, and she was proud to receive her GED on her birthday in 1991. Chris had a kind and generous heart. She loved her solitude, but she also loved her family, friends, and neighborhood family. She was very proud of her home, and enjoyed planting her flower garden every year, as well as decorating her home both inside and out for every season and holiday. Her garden was full of gnomes, and her home was full of angels, two things that always made her smile. Chris was an avid Ohio State football fan, who always told people “Don’t bother me during game time unless the world is coming to an end!” Chris was especially close to her cousin, Julie, who was her best friend and the one person who Chris would always let into her life. Chris is survived by her son, Shane, and his family, of South Carolina, her sisters Twila and Vicki, and her step-mother, Dee. Chris was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, Mark, who she never stopped missing. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Carmen, as well as brothers Dennis and John. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, September 12, from 2-4 pm at the Dorr Street Cafe, 5243 Dorr Street, Toledo, OH. At 2:30 there will be an opportunity for family members and friends to share their memories of Chris if they would like to do so. Burial arrangements will be private. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Chris’s name to Rebekah’s Haven, The Sparrow’s Nest, or Beach House Family Shelter, all located in Toledo, OH.
