Charles R. Zeltner

Charles Raymond Zeltner was born at home in Cygnet, OH February 7, 1934 to Otto Zeltner and Mary (Chapman) Zeltner. He passed in his home January 23, 2023. Charles married Mary Ann Krontz July 11, 1954, and they had 3 daughters together. They were married until Mary Ann passed in November of 2022. Charles retired from LOF glass factory, but retirement didn’t slow him down. He went on to become a licensed auctioneer for the state of Michigan and he also drove for PTI.

Charles loved animals, tractors (especially John Deere), gardening and anything that took him outdoors. He was happiest with a cat on his lap or outside fixing something. He also loved children. Not only did he adore his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, he was known to give random children at the store who were behaving, pennies for the horse ride at Meijer, or a dollar to buy a candy bar at other stores. He was also a very humorous man who loved to make people laugh.

Charles will be greatly missed by his surviving daughters, Melody (Paul) Godfrey and Cathy Zeltner as well as his sister, Shirley Jane Hutchinson. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Kristy (Clint) Ward, Michael Godfrey, Hope (Jake) Zeltner Kiefer, Cheri (Troy) Lucas, Deanna (Thad) Meek, as well as his many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his wife Mary Ann (Krontz) Zeltner and his daughter Mary Lou (Zeltner) Meek. He also joins his parents and his sisters, Dorothea (Zeltner) Steiff, and Maxine (Zeltner) Rehus, as well as brothers, Kenneth Zeltner, Donald Zeltner, Merlin Zeltner, and William Zeltner.

A memorial service will be held at St Johns UCC, 1213 Washington St. Genoa, OH 43430 on March 18, 2023. Greeting starts at 10:00 am followed by a short service at 11:00 am. A light lunch will be provided immediately after service at the church.
