Charles Herb Rolander

Charles “Herb” Rolander, age 82 of Toledo passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on March 12, 2012. He was born on December 31, 1929 in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Swedish immigrant Ragnar Rolander and Lydia (Liedblad) Rolander of Jamestown. He is survived by brother Bertil (Clare) Rolander of Spartanburg, S.C. and many nieces and nephews; daughter Lynn (Jim) Hull of Napoleon, Oh.; sons Steven (Amy) Rolander of Kenton, Oh., Gregory (Claudia) Rolander of Seattle, WA, and Daniel (Daryce) Rolander of Napoleon, Oh., as well as 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and beloved dog, Heidi. Mr. Rolander was a confirmed member of the the 1943 Confirmation Class of the Salvation Army. He served for four years as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy and was discharded in 1952. He attended the University of Buffalo on the GI Bill where he met his wife of 56 years, Barbara Carlson Rolander of Jamestown, N. Y., who survives. Mr. Rolander worked as a sales engineer in the plastics industry for 36 years, retiring in 1991 from Cytec Industries Incorporated. He enjoyed the company of many people on daily walks with Heidi at Wildwood Park. He had a passion for vintage Indian motorcycles, cameras and photography, and enjoyed traveling with his wife both in the U.S. and abroad. A celebration of life gathering of family and friends will be held in his memory from 4-6 on Friday, March 16th at the home of Barbara Rolander. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to The Salvation Army or Humane Ohio. Online condolences may be shared below:
