Charles W. Phillips

June 6, 1947 — September 30, 2024

Charles Wilbur Phillips, affectionately known as, Husband, Dad, and most importantly Papa, passed away after a courageous battle with Cancer on September 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 77.

Charlie was born in Fremont, Ohio to Cloyce and Betty (Marsh) Phillips. He was raised in Gibsonburg, Ohio and graduated from Gibsonburg High School before he was drafted into the US Army. Charlie worked at the Railroad, and retired from Johnson Control.

Second to his family came Charlie’s love of cars, fishing, and playing cards with his wife Judi and friends Betty and Dave Ross, he also enjoyed many years relaxing at the campground. He was always working on something, and usually not for himself but for others. You could definitely count on Charlie to know how to fix something, or build something. He often did it without being asked, that was Charlie.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Judith (Genson) Phillips; his children,  Tom (Kristy)Phillips, Nicolas Avalos (Melissa), Jennifer (John) Pratt, Jodi (Brian) Fryman-Reed, and Jill (Jacob) Duwve; fifteen grand-children;  four great-grand children; long time family friend, Betty Ross; and special neighbor and friend Josh Sobczak. He also leaves behind sister Kathy (Nelson) Boice, along with several nieces and nephews. And we can’t forget, Jaxon, his canine companion and side kick who rarely left his side during his final days.

He was proceeded in death by both his parents; sisters, Sharon McDaniels and Jonnie Haunlorst; and best friend, also known as ”his brother from another mother”, Dave Ross.

Family and friends are invited in celebrating Charlie at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 18, 2024, at Athens Missionary Baptist Church, 101 Breckman St. Walbridge, Ohio 43465.
