Carolyn May Puppos (Orr) of Toledo, Ohio, a loving mother, devoted wife, and cherished friend, passed away on February 23rd, 2024 due to complications from Alzhiemer’s disease. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She was 84 years old.
Born May 8th, 1939 in Des Moine, Iowa Carolyn was the daughter of Harold Orr and Geraldine (Cherry) Williamson.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Orr; mother, Geraldine (Cherry) Williamson; sister, Regina (Orr) Reza and her beloved husband, Richard Puppos. Caroyln is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Tim) Warring. She is also survived by grandchildren, Timothy “TJ” and Rachel Warring.
Carolyn graduated from North High School in Des Moine, Iowa. She worked in property management in Toledo, Ohio and Las Vegas, Nevada for over thirty years and loved her work in this profession although her favorite job was working for The Jim Beam Company in California. She was the only executive woman working in a primarily male dominated organization. It was in California that she met and married her husband, Richard Puppos and gave birth to her daughter, Kimberly. Although she loved California, she decided that it was not the right place to raise a child and insisted on moving to Toledo, Ohio to be closer to Richard’s family where he grew up. It was while living in Toledo that she got her start in property management. She had been working as an executive assistant for the owners of the Tamaron Country Club in Toledo. These owners then built the Tamaron Apartments and hired Carolyn to manage the property for them and also hired her husband, Richard to maintain the property. They were a management team and worked well together but make no mistake, she was the boss. She managed many different properties and found that this occupation was well suited for relocation. She lived and worked in many areas across the country including, Denver, Colorado, Las Vegas, Nevada and Birmingham, Alabama. She retired from the profession back in Toledo, Ohio but continued working part time to train other property managers.
Although she loved working with people and being the boss, her greatest love was being a wife, mother, and grandmother (Memaw). She was a fantastic mother to her only child, Kim. She was not only a mom but also a great friend. Carolyn and Kim traveled frequently for their “mother daughter trips” and visited many different parts of the country together with one of their favorite places being San Diego. Carolyn cherished Kim but also adored her grandchildren, TJ and Rachel along with her son-in-law, Tim who was like the son she never had. Carolyn was a great cook and prepared many Sunday dinners for her family and created lasting memories of time spent being together. She truly enjoyed being together with her family and found joy in doing so.
Carolyn never missed cheering the kids on at their sporting events, sitting in the audience proudly watching their concerts or providing love and encouragement like only a grandmother can. She was their biggest fan. Since Carolyn was a working woman, she didn’t have many hobbies outside weekly exercise classes and spending time with her family. She was selfless in her love and devotion. Family time was her greatest pleasure.
As we bid farewell to a strong, intelligent, kind and resilient woman, we will remember her for the love she shared, the lives she touched, and we will miss the special family time and dinners together. We believe that you are with Dad now, keeping him in line again, and being the boss always and forever.
We will continue watching for the cardinals (your favorite bird) as a sign of you visiting us and sending your strength and love our way.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date for the burial of Carolyn and Richard. “Together Forever”
The family kindly requests that any donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or The Toledo Humane Society.
