Carol A. Mccormick

Carol Ann McCormick built a life centered on family, learning, and friendship. Born on November 3, 1946, to Paul and Virginia Scherf, Carol believed in the power of a dream and proved it by putting herself through college while raising two young daughters with her devoted husband. Her hard work and determination led her to become a teacher at the University of Toledo, a role that reflected her passion for education and her desire to help others grow.

Education was one of Carol’s guiding values, whether through formal schooling or the lessons learned from life. She respected both equally, always eager to learn and grow from any source of knowledge.

Her home was always warm and welcoming, with room for an extra chair at the table and a meal lovingly prepared from the food she proudly grew in her garden. Carol believed true nourishment came not just from food, but from the connections and support shared with loved ones. She had a gift for bringing people together with her generous spirit and love of a good get-together.

Though she was a talented knitter and seamstress, Carol’s greatest artistry was in how she threaded her life with compassion and resilience, creating a family tapestry woven with love and hope. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled in her family: perseverance, generosity, and the belief that it’s never too late to embrace your dreams.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Gary, her daughters, Holly (Larry Butkovich Jr.) and Kate (Jeff Haas), and her cherished granddaughters, Emily, Sarah, Sophia, and Hannah.

In honor of Carol’s memory, a tree will be planted in the spring, once the thaw arrives.
