Bruce Schermbeck

October 23, 1943 — April 17, 2026

Toledo

Bruce Carl Schermbeck of Toledo passed away peacefully at Hospice of NW Ohio on April 17, 2026. Formerly living in Marblehead, Bruce spent the last year in Foundation Park Alzheimer Care Center before moving to Hospice. Bruce was born on October 23, 1943 to Walter and Eunice Schermbeck of Toledo. He was the oldest of three children - a brother, Larry, and a sister, Barbara.

Bruce was a proud product of the old south end. He attended the original Newbury Elementary School, Jones Jr. High, and graduated from Macomber Vocational High, class of '61, majoring in Mechanical Drafting. He continued his education at the University of Toledo graduating with an Associates Degree in Mechanical drafting.

He morphed from mechanical drafting to architectural drafting, and from there into design and remodeling with a distinct interest in maintaining the historic integrity of aging structures.

An avid camper, Bruce loved being in nature and sailing his sailboat. He was happiest when partaking of these adventures with his beloved Dianna!

He was preceded in death by his parents, and the love of his life, soulmate and wife, Diana (Broshious) Schermbeck. He is survived by his son, Fritz; daughter, Cheryl Layne; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Bruce's Life in the shelter house at Walbridge Park on Broadway, across from the Zoo, on Saturday, May 23, from 2-4 PM. We will visit and have refreshments from 2-3:30 and bid Bruce smooth sailing on calm seas at 3:30.
