Bruce D. Horsfall

February 16, 1933 — November 17, 2016

Born February 16, 1933 in Lakewood, Ohio, eldest child of J. David and Laura Seefried Horsfall of Avon Lake, Ohio, Bruce died peacefully on November 17, 2016, following a massive stroke. He was a man who lived life fully and with infectious enthusiasm for all this world had to offer.

A graduate of Avon Lake High School and Bowling Green University, Bruce went on to become a pilot in the US Air Force and embraced his half-German heritage while stationed in Germany during the mid-1950s. He was honorably discharged in 1960 and returned to Ohio to work in the family business, Excelsior Marking Products, based in Stow, Ohio. After a short time living in Westlake, Ohio, he moved to Hudson where he became engaged in various civic activities from being “Santa in the Square” for many years to holding offices in the Hudson Parent Teachers Association. He served in leadership positions with Hudson Rotary and was active with Hudson Players, both on stage and behind the curtain.

The US Air Force introduced Bruce to computer programming in the very early days of the technology, skills he built upon throughout his professional career, often traveling all over the world to program complex computer systems. He also kept his pilot’s license current for most of his adult life and used it to rent small planes for pleasure and exploration.

During the last years of his life he was a full-time traveler, using his RV as his home and base, catching up with old friends, family members and exploring with his usual enthusiasm all of this country’s natural wonders.

He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Kimberlin of Perrysburg, OH (died December 2021) and Christie Horsfall of Bowling Green, OH, two sisters, Sally Davis of Boca Raton, FL and Linda Bell, of Loveland, CO. A long marriage to Carolyn Lapp Horsfall ended in divorce and she predeceased him in 2000. A second marriage to Vicki LaBarron of Norfolk, VA, also ended

in divorce.
