Bruce A. Carpenter

October 16, 1962 — May 18, 2023

Bruce Allen Carpenter passed peacefully in his sleep on May 18th, 2023 after his fight with throat cancer at Parks Terrace Nursing home. Bruce was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 16, 1962 to Joyce and Virgil (Pat) Carpenter.

Bruce spent his life in Toldeo. He lived a simple life, yet a very meaningful life! He attended Rogers High School, (he was excellent at spelling) and following graduation, he enlisted in the Army to serve our country for a brief time.

Bruce was human, and life dealt him what most would call a losing hand. He had a motorcycle accident at 21 years old where he suffered a traumatic brain injury. Bruce journeyed on with bravery and living with mom as her "Mr. Sunshine". He would make coffee for them every morning and then play cards. After, he would walk to go to visit his friends in all kinds of weather. Bruce had friends wherever he went, especially at South and Broadway (they even called him Mr. Broadway!) Always on the go, he never needed much rest! Bruce also enjoyed listening to music, especially Journey. He disliked conflict; born a Libra, he like to stay neutral in most situations but usually only sided with mom.

Bruce's life message was to pray, enjoy life (even if things are not going your way), laugh, be polite, walk away from conflict when you can, accept responsibility, and have a beer!

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Virgil W. Carpenter and his brother, Michael Carpenter. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Carpenter; daughter, Kelli; his sisters Wendy LeForge and Ginger Smith; older brother, Patrick Carpenter; grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and numerous great nephews and nieces.

We want to thank Park Terrace Nursing home staff for their outstanding care of Bruce. You honored him while making his last days comfortable.

Bruce will be cremated and a memorial celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm on May 28th at his home. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate money to Park Congregational UCC in Toledo for their outreach programs, especially the homeless.
