Brenda Marie Rogge (Kurschat)

June 7, 1942 — August 17, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brenda Marie Rogge on August 17, 2022. Born to Erich and Virginia Kurschat on June 7, 1942. Brenda was brought home to Dale Street and she lived in South Toledo for the rest of her life. She attended Walbridge Elementary and Libbey High School, Class of 1960, during this time she met and made many life-long friends. It was at Highland Park in the summer of 1958, that she met her match in Fred Rogge, also a student at Libbey, Class of 1959. They were together from then on. Brenda was the Queen of Teen Town, loved school, was a tremendous business student and fastest typist around, leading her to a job at Owens-Illinois right out of high school. Her picture even appeared in Business Week magazine in 1964. Married in 1962, Brenda and Fred had two children, Fred and Dana and settled on Bronx Drive. Brenda was a stay-at-home Mom and dedicated her life to her husband and family. Her bond with Fred was a special one, lasting over 60 years in this world but everlasting in eternity. Always there when needed, involved and engaged in the activities of her children and community. Including Burroughs School, Faith Lutheran Church and the Southwest Toledo YMCA. She learned to swim (as an adult) at the YMCA. Working her way through swimming lessons, then took and passed Life Saving and eventually taught swim lessons to children. Brenda went back to work in the 1970’s, working for the Lucas County Courts and The Andersons. She was at the top of her field as an Executive Secretary during her time at Glasstech, working for Harold McMaster and retired from there. Also, during her working career, she pursued higher education, always a goal for her, she graduated from Lourdes College with honors. Then she jumped into being a grandmother, always the biggest fan of her grandchildren, Chris, Haley, Jack and Madelin. Be it baseball, baton twirling, dancing, football, color guard, marching band, she was always there. Brenda loved animals of all kinds except reptiles and rodents. She was especially fond of horses, cats, and dogs. She talked to animals like they were going to answer her back. Friendly to all, Brenda had scores of friends, was a good listener and was always willing to lend a hand or an ear to those in need. She knew someone everywhere she went, loved to dance, was a voracious reader, she was an achiever, wished she had been a doctor. Though, she did have one flaw, no matter how hard she tried, and she tried until she was practically cross-eyed, but she could not quite understand algebra! She made the best of her journey, was dearly loved and is gone too soon. Those surviving are her loving husband Fred; her son, Fred (Barb) Rogge; daughter, Dana (Carl) Sayre. Grandchildren, Chris Rogge, Haley (Koty) Voigt, Jack Rogge and Madelin Sayre. Great granddaughter, Joan Voigt and soon to arrive, Joan’s little brother. Also surviving are sisters, Mona (Jim) Vogelbacher, Luana (Jerry Ladd) McVicker; nieces, Michelle McVicker and Melissa (Fred) Lammers; in-laws, Frances and James Barney; nephew, Terry (Jeannie) Barney; cousins, Karen (Rex) Shanahan & Family and Richard (Glenna) Kurschat & Family. Tony (Jan) Kirk, Tim (Audrey) Kirk, Andy (Tina) Kirk and Becky (Joe) Jefferies. Also, very important to her were those friends, the life-long friends from her school days, work and otherwise, too many to name them all. Brenda was predeceased by her mother Virginia, by 15 days; her father Erich, in 1987; in-laws, Fred and Viola Rogge; Aunt and Uncle, Pauline and Richard Kurschat; Aunt, Carolyn McBride; brother-in-law, Jeff McVicker; niece, Erica (McVicker) Brown; and nephew Jeffery McVicker. Those who provided personal care for Brenda over the last couple years deserve a special thank you, her husband Fred, daughter Dana, sisters Luana and Mona, nieces Michelle and Melissa. Also, Home Health Aides from Right at Home, TJ and Pam and the entire staff of Hospice of NWO. Donations can be made to the Toledo Humane Society in Brenda’s name.
