Betty M. (Jerles) Stilwell, a woman remembered for her sweet nature and gentle spirit, passed May 23, 2026, just months shy of her 100th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John; her parents, Harry and Gladys; her six siblings, Guilaf (Gibby) Hoover, James, Herman, Harvey, Kathleen Elliott, and Howard (Phillip) along with their spouses; and several nieces and nephews. Brother Harvey was married to John's sister, Beulah, so there was an especially close relationship between the two families.
Betty is survived by her loving daughters, Carma Donati and Lana Stilwell; her cherished grandchildren, Erich Donati and Autumn (Kenneth) Keller; and her adored great-grandchildren, Cody and Alexis Keller - all who affectionately knew her as "MeeMee" or "Meem". She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Betty grew up in Randolph County, IN and graduated from Green Township High School and Indiana Business School. She was a clerical worker at McCormick Bros. Corp in Albany, IN for several years. In 1966, she was honored to be named Mrs. Indiana, a reflection of the grace, warmth and kindness she carried throughout her life. After the passing of her husband, she moved near family in the Toledo, OH area.
Betty found beauty and joy in everyday life. She loved the peacefulness of farm life, treasured time spent with family, and delighted in life's simple wonders - four-leaf clovers, the charm of covered bridges, and stories that could spark a child's imagination. A creative soul, she enjoyed writing children's books and sharing her warmth and gentle wisdom with everyone around her.
To know Betty was to know kindness, comfort and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, lovingly carried in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. While our hearts grieve our loss, we find peace in knowing she is whole again and resting peacefully.
Per her wishes there will be no visitation or services.
