Beth E. Hopkins Scheffert

June 22, 1956 — October 5, 2023

Beth Ellen Hopkins Scheffert, 67, passed away on October 5, 2023, in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on June 22, 1956, to Melvin Hopkins Jr. and Barbara Morris Hopkins.

Beth grew up in Grosse Pointe Woods and Rochester, Michigan.

Beth had a lively and friendly personality and enjoyed life to the fullest. She made many childhood friends and enjoyed contact with them even near the end on-line. Her grade school friend Marty recalled "I met Beth at St. Andrews School, she was always such a sweet & kind person, we lost a good friend, heaven took home an angel. I am so glad we reconnected a few years back, RIP BETH!". High-school pal, Mike said he still remembered she loved the song You Are the Sunshine Of my Life back then. Capri said, "I remember my high school classmate, she had a nice smile, and she was kind.” Her cousins Tracy and Mindy were "happy we got to reconnect with Beth and the Hopkins side of our family these last several years, I do so wish we’d been in touch sooner. 'Smooches', as Beth would say!"

Beth Ellen came from a very musical family and adored hearing her brother and nephew play the songs that they learned from her father, known as “Doc”. When Jimmy Buffet recently died, her brother posted a video online of himself playing a Buffett song on his guitar and said “Cheers to someone that brought joy and fun to the world. Bring some joy and fun to your world this weekend please. We only get so many days. Make them count.” Beth responded 1st moments after it posted and replied “Beautiful. Love you. LOVE THIS.”

She worked in the Automotive and Call Center industries in Michigan and Ohio. Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Scheffert, and her parents. She is survived by her brothers Mel (Sandy), Ian (Terese), David (Karin), and Matt Hopkins.

Memorial contributions are requested to the local Animal Rescue Shelter in your community or to the donor's choice.
