Bertha Berendt

Comfortably surrounded by family, Bertha Berendt, age 80, passed away on November 9, 2023, at the home of her daughter, Roseann (Randall) Prater. Bertha came to America with her family, from Germany, at the age of 8. She attended Woodward High School, in Toledo, and worked for K-Mart for 30 years, until her retirement. She had many interests, including her love of rose gardening, bingo, casinos, church festivals, swimming, bowling, and taking her family to Maumee Bay State Park and The Toledo Zoo.

She is survived by her children, Roseann (Randall) Prater, Kenneth Berendt and Suzanne (Gerry) Santoro, as well as her brother, J.R. (Julie) Szczypkowski. Bertha was very proud of her grandchildren, Brandi, Kelsey and Brooke; great-grandchildren Logan, Alice and Connor. She had a special place in her heart for Alisha, Marissa, Devin, Dani, Jessica, Staci and Rob. Bertha is preceded in death by her parents, Konstanty and Bertha Szczypkowski; brothers, Valentine and Wilhelm Szczypkowski.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family requests that any donations be made to The Toledo Zoo.
